Ingredients

Simple, fresh ingredients make the best mocktails.

  • Orange: Sliced for citrusy sweetness and color.
  • Strawberries: Sliced fresh, with extra slices for garnish.
  • Maple syrup: Or your preferred sweetener, to balance the flavors.
  • Non-alcoholic red wine: Fruity and rich (see my favorites here). You can substitute red grape juice if you'll be serving it to children.
  • Hibiscus tea: Brewed and chilled, with vibrant colors and tangy notes. Leftover tea? Be sure to check out my simple Hibiscus Mocktail too.
  • Sparkling lemon mineral water or ginger beer: Adds fizz and brightness just before serving.

To Make Your Hibiscus Sangria

  1. Muddle: Add the orange, strawberries, and maple syrup (or your preferred sweetener) to a pitcher or small punch bowl and muddle gently.
  2. Infuse: Pour in the non-alcoholic red wine and let the mixture infuse for about 1 hour in the fridge.

Expert Tips And Tricks

This recipe is simple, and these tricks will help you nail it every single time!

  • Chill all the ingredients ahead of time to avoid dilution from the melting ice.
  • Adjust the sweetness at the end. Taste the mocktail first, and then add more sweetener if needed.
  • You can swap in any seasonal fruit you have on hand. Berries always pair beautifully with non-alcoholic red wine, but apples, lemon, lime, or even melon could be a nice addition to this drink!
  • Open your non-alcoholic red wine an hour before using it. Just like traditional wine, it benefits from a bit of air and some time to "breathe".

Notes

Note 1: If you're using a non-alcoholic red wine, check out my favorites here. The Giesen and Lautus wines would be my top choices for this recipe, but any will work!
Prefer to skip the wine? I'd recommend a red grape juice or a pomegranate juice. You probably won't need the sweetener if using the juice, but I'll leave that up to your tastebuds!
