✨1 YEAR ALCOHOL FREE✨ It’s official, I am 1 ✨1 YEAR ALCOHOL FREE✨
It’s official, I am 1 year alcohol free.
And what a year it has been!
I stopped drinking just as the uncertainty of Covid hit and we were in lockdown. While for some people this might have been the easiest time to stop drinking because the social pressures weren’t there, for me personally it was never my social drinking that troubled me.
It was the drinking I did at home, alone, with the kids in the next room.
And during lockdown and for much of the last year I found myself at home, alone (with the kids) for very long days, for months on end.
I honestly shudder to think what that time would have been like if I drank my way through it and am thankful every day that I changed my drinking habits prior.
I have connected with so many wonderful people in the last year.
It’s a beautiful thing that happens when you put yourself out there and are honest and vulnerable about something that to many is considered taboo - like admitting you have a problem with alcohol.
It gives others permission to open up and be honest and vulnerable too. That’s when the best conversation happens and the deepest friendships are made.
Abstaining from alcohol hasn’t solved all my problems. Responsibilities are still there, there are still bad days and lots of challenges. But it is so much easier to manage these things without a hangover and the anxiety that alcohol caused.
One of the things I am proudest of is the example I am setting for our kids. They’ve gone from seeing me drink almost every day and using alcohol as a ‘problem solver’, to finding new, healthier ways to manage challenging days and emotions.
There are so many other things I could say, and this year has been full of lessons, but most of all I want to say THANK YOU for coming on this crazy ride with me.
I am so grateful for you. 💛
It’s Virgin Sangria time! It was so much fun cr It’s Virgin Sangria time!
It was so much fun creating this gorgeous non-alcoholic Sangria.
Perfect for a crowd, easy to make, AND it looks just gorgeous - I’ll be saving this one for Christmas!
In other news, I have finally found, after a year of searching, an alcohol free red wine that hits the spot for me.
Thank you @edenvalewines for gifting me this Premium Reserve Pinot Noir that worked perfectly for this recipe.
It has ripe red and dark fruit characters, but is still quite savoury and not too sweet. I love that it doesn’t fall away at the finish like so many alcohol free reds.
Even better, the alcohol is removed in such a way that the healthy antioxidants and vitamins from the grapes is maintained.
An alcohol free red with health benefits? Yes please!
You can find the link to the recipe in my bio. And if you don’t have access to Edenvale, a medium bodied fruity red works perfectly for this Sangria.
Cheers and enjoy!

Looking for a quick and easy mocktail for Easter? This is it!
With only 3 ingredients (plus garnishes!) this decadent, chocolatey mocktail is as easy as blend and serve AND can be made in large batches if you’re making it for a crowd.
I know I’m usually all about the healthy mocktails, but if you can’t have a bit of chocolate at Easter, then when can you?!
You can find the recipe linked in my bio.
I hope you have a beautiful Easter! 🤎
Personal story: I’m coming up to 1 year alcohol Personal story: I’m coming up to 1 year alcohol free next month and I thought my days of being tempted to drink were over. I feel like the last year has thrown almost every tempting situation at me.
There have been lockdowns, schools closing, the socialising and celebrating that happened after everything opened back up, BBQ’s, summer picnics, birthdays, dinners….I could go on and on.
But a couple of weeks ago I had a situation that really threw me and it was probably the most tempted I’ve been to drink in the last 12 months.
My son made friends with another boy last year at kinder. This year they both started at different schools so they don’t get to see each other. His mum and I decided to organise a play date….even though we’d never met before. For some reason we’d always missed each other at pick up and drop off.
There was those inevitable ‘I hope we get along’ thoughts. It can be a bit daunting meeting another mum for the first time.
It was clear as soon as I walked in that we would get along. She was warm, funny and kind. The boys ran off to play and she showed me through to her gorgeous sunlit kitchen where she’d prepared a grazing platter for us.
We sat down and started chatting and after a few minutes she said with a cheeky smile ‘Would you like a champagne?’ and pulled a bottle of Moët out of the fridge.
As a (not so) recovered people pleaser, I was completely thrown.
My first thoughts were:
‘She’s gone to so much trouble, it would be rude not to have a glass.’
‘She will be disappointed if I say no.’
I had this urge to sit there on a sunny Saturday and enjoy a glass of cold champagne. I missed the feeling of camaraderie I used to get from clinking glasses and sharing a bottle of wine with a friend and talking about life.
Of course I said no. And we had a great time. Turns out I really DON’T need alcohol to meet new people and have great conversations. We talked for hours and stayed far longer than I’d planned to!
When I was thinking about it later, this @glennondoyle quote came to mind and I thought it was so appropriate.
Even if I had disappointed her by saying no that day, it was a far better outcome than disappointing myself. 💛

It’s pomegranate mocktail time! These pomegrana It’s pomegranate mocktail time!
These pomegranate mojito mocktails are absolutely divine - both to look at AND to drink.
I know juice usually gets a bad rap due to the sugar content, but I only use a small amount in these mocktails.
And far as juice goes, pomegranate is one of the healthiest to consume.
Choosing a good quality pomegranate juice (I recommend one in my post) will mean it’s packed with antioxidants and vitamin rich.

Ever see a quote and wish you’d read it years ag Ever see a quote and wish you’d read it years ago?
This @brenebrown quote is exactly that for me 💛
I spent such a long time asking the wrong questions, frantically googling during yet another hangover:
- Am I an alcoholic?
- Is it normal to drink alone?
- Is it ok to drink everyday?
The fact I was even asking these questions was a huge red flag that something was not right.
What I should have been asking myself is:
- Would tomorrow look better if I didn’t drink today?
- Do I want my kids growing up thinking its normal to drink every day?
- Is there a better way to handle stress in my life?
This is your little reminder that if you’re questioning your drinking, chances are your drinking isn’t serving you.
💛💛💛
