Three glass bottles with gold caps, each filled with fruit-infused water. The bottles contain slices of green lime and kiwi, red strawberries and pomegranate, and orange citrus with yellow fruit, all with chia seeds. Fruits are scattered around.

Chia seeds have become incredibly popular over the years, and while they're not a magic ingredient, they are packed with benefits like plant based omega-3, fiber and minerals. And soaked chia seeds absorb lots of water when they gel up, which helps keep you hydrated. But how do you make them taste good?

The answer is Fruity Chia Seed Water. This post offers SIX flavor combinations, including refreshing green, tropical orange, berry-packed red, antioxidant-rich blue, and stunning pink dragonfruit. Each recipe comes together in minutes and turns plain chia seeds in water into a refreshing drink that's perfect to reach for throughout the day.

Note: The chia seeds will float to the bottom, so the drink will need a gentle shake before drinking.

Tips & Tricks

  • Chia goes a LONG way. I soaked 2 tablespoons in 2 cups of water and it was easily enough for the 5 drinks pictured (based on 1.5 cups of water per drink).
  • Soaked chia seeds last in the fridge up to 5 days
  • The chia seed water can be prepared the day before and infused overnight. Once infused, it can be kept for up to 3 days in the fridge.
  • This recipe can be made with whatever types of fruit you have on hand
  • Fresh herbs like lemon balm, bergamot, and mint also work exceptionally well for chia seed water infusions too.

I hope you love my chia seed water recipes as much as I do!

Ingredients

For Your Chia Seeds

  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds (black or white)
  • 2 cups water

For The Drink

  • ½-1 cup sliced fruit/herbs of your choice (see notes section below for some of my favorite combinations)
  • 1.5 cups water (coconut water can also be used)
  • 2 tablespoons soaked chia seeds (method below)

Instructions

To Soak Your Chia Seeds

  • Place 2 tablespoons chia seeds and 2 cups water in a jar or pitcher. Stir well and leave for 15–20 minutes, stirring once or twice as the seeds begin to gel. This will make enough soaked chia for about 5 drinks.

To Make The Drink

  • Add the sliced fruit and soaked chia seeds to your glass or bottle. Top with water and stir/shake well. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to infuse.
  • Give the drink a gentle shake before serving, as the chia seeds will naturally settle to the bottom.

Notes

  • Green -  cucumber, lime, mint, kiwi
  • Orange - mango, orange, lemon
