Best Non-Alcoholic Red Wine 2025

For the last 6 years I've been tasting and reviewing wines in the search for the best non-alcoholic red wines on the market. I know first hand how difficult it can be to find a good alcohol-free red and just how disappointing it can be to have to tip yet another bottle you paid good money for down the sink. Well...that ends here!

Three people stand smiling behind a counter lined with bottles of non-alcoholic wine. The man wears glasses and a striped shirt; the young woman wears a colorful dress; the older woman wears glasses, a red dress, and a festive party hat.
My parents and I taking the search for the best non-alcoholic red wine very seriously!

Confession: I always ask my Dad to taste test the reds with me - he worked in the wine industry for many, many years and is quite the wine connoisseur. He is also extremely picky when it comes to wine and is the perfect judge to help me decide what ends up in this list every year!

The great new is red wine has come ahead in leaps and bounds in recent years, with makers coming up with some incredible techniques to create red wines without alcohol that are getting closer and closer to the real thing.

What are the benefits of non-alcoholic red wine?

Alcohol-free red wine offers many of the same potential perks as traditional red...but without the alcohol! Here are some of the key benefits:

  • Rich in antioxidants: many non-alcoholic reds retain polyphenols like resveratrol, which are found in grape skins and give the wine its rich color and flavor.
  • Lower in calories and sugar: many non-alcoholic red wines contain less sugar than their alcoholic counterparts, which often makes them a lower-calorie choice.
  • Enjoy the ritual, but skip the hangover: you still get the taste, the glass and the cheers, but without the headache!

Expert Tips and Tricks

My advice and tips for red wine are:

  • Go in with an open mind. These wines are not going to taste identical to your full bodied Shiraz, so just let go of the idea of what it’s ‘supposed’ to taste like. Adjusting ones expectations is essential!
  • Pair the wine with food: this is where these reds really shine. It’s rare to see me sipping on an alcohol-free red wine the way I would a non-alcoholic sparkling or white wine. They really do taste best with a meal - I love my reds with pasta, steak and cheese.
  • Open the wine in advance to let it breathe, just as you would with regular wine. I always open mine the morning of, or the night before. I heard a winemaker suggest going so far as to lightly blending your red to air it. I've never done it myself, but I'll try anything once!
  • I've spoken to people who swear by adding a few drops of balsamic vinegar or alcohol-free bitters (my favorite is All The Bitter, use code MINDFUL for a cheeky discount) to increase the body and depth of flavor - definitely something to try before tipping it down the sink! On that note, don't forget you can always make a non-alcoholic mulled wine if all else fails.

Giesen 0% Premium Red (Merlot)

A bottle of Giesen Premium Red wine lies on a table next to a charcuterie board with cured meats, nuts, olives, radishes, crackers, and herbs, alongside two glasses of wine.

Review: Wow she’s a goodie. With a gorgeous deep ruby red hue, this is ideal if you are looking for non-alcoholic Merlot. Light and oaky, it tastes of crushed berries and plum with a lovely dry finish.

Giesen also do an incredible alcohol-free Sauvignon Blanc and a Rosé.

Altina Pepperberry Shiraz

A plate with grilled steak, potato wedges, and a salad. A bowl of salad with tomatoes, cucumber, and olives, and a bottle of Pepperberry Shiraz red wine are on the table.

Review: Juicy red fruits, underpinned by Native Pepperberry, which gives body and structure. Finishing with hints of oak and vanilla. ALTINA’s Pepperberry shiraz is nice and dry, and pairs perfectly with pizza, pasta and roasts.

Noughty Rouge Syrah Dealcoholized Red Wine

A hand holding a bottle of Naughty Non-Alcoholic Syrah wine with a bright red label, near a window with green plants visible outside.

Review: Robust and juicy with tannins - what more could you ask for? This dealcoholized wine is a gorgeous deep red that is perfect for sipping while eating pasta.

Zweigelt Alcohol Removed Red Wine

A hand holds a bottle of Zweigelt alcohol-removed red wine on a white table, with a potted lavender plant, flower petals, and orange slices nearby.

Review: You simply must try the Zeronimo range of reds. Their Leonis Blend is the first 98 point wine to be dealcoholized, and they have just released a 20 year aged dealcoholized wine...alcohol-free red wine has just been taken to the next level.

Lautus De-Alcoholised Savvy Red

red wine bottle with a white label and the brand Lautus written in black across the front.

Review: Aged in oak for 9-12 months, this wine is made from a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinotage grapes. It's lovely and dry but still rich and fruity, with a lovely subtle oak finish.

Edenvale Sparkling Shiraz

A hand holds a bottle of Edenvale Sparkling Shiraz, an alcohol-removed wine, in front of a red brick wall. The bottle features a black label with gold and purple accents.

Review: Fruity, robust and a little spicy, I adore this sparkling shiraz. Yes it is a touch sweet but so is a regular sparkling shiraz. Dad and I make a point of having this every year with our turkey on Christmas Day - TRUST me - you need to try it!

Leitz Zero Point Five Pinor Noir

A hand holding a bottle of Zephyr Pinot Noir wine with a black and gray label, in front of a red brick wall.

Edenvale Grenache Shiraz Mataro Alcohol Removed Red Wine

A hand holds a bottle of Edenvale Premium Reserve Shiraz, with a gold and black label, in front of a red brick wall background.

Review: as I said above, my Dad is a hard man to please, but this was his favorite by far when we conducted a red wine tasting earlier this year. It's full bodied (not watery or 'thin' as some non-alcoholic reds tend to be), has a luxurious velvety mouthfeel and is absolutely perfect with red meat or a big bowl of pasta - you simply must try this wine!

When All Else Fails

Ever opened a bottle of non-alcoholic red wine and been bitterly disappointed? Don't pour it down the sink...make a mocktail with it instead! Here are some of my faves.

  1. Thank you for this list! I went from occasional drinking to barely drinking, and one night of one glass of wine 🍷 ruined a whole day of productivity due to sleep issues. I actually enjoy a nice glass of really good wine 🍷 and I’m looking for a way to still enjoy an occasional glass without the sleep
Deprivation. I’m also trying to create a good example to my kids, because I lost multiple family members due to alcoholism. I’m looking for fun and creative ways to still enjoy mocktails and drinks without the negative consequences. Thank you for the list!

  2. I tried Ariel Cabernet Sauvignon yesterday. It's very good. Giesen Rose is my favorite. I add a couple slices of fresh jalapeno.

  3. Have you heard about the wine called "WIN"? It is a white wine, alcohol removed. The best I've had. I live in the Phoenix area. Any comments for me?
