This simple non-alcoholic white sangria can be made in advance, which makes it the perfect batch holiday mocktail. With a delicious combination of sweet apple, cinnamon and citrus, this recipe takes just minutes to assemble and then you can put it in the fridge and forget about it until your guests arrive.
This is the time of year when recipe requests tend to flow in, and they always follow a similar theme – you want easy recipes that can be made for guests ahead of time. I’m so pleased to say this easy white sangria mocktail ticks ALL the boxes.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
The flavor combination is magic: did you know that when you combine apples, non-alcoholic wine (or alternative listed below), citrus and spices it results in a beautiful virgin sangria that hits all your tastebuds? I’ve had so many incredible reviews about this recipe.
It’s glorious to look at: let’s face it, it’s an important time of the year for aesthetics and as I’ve said before, we often ‘taste with our eyes’ first. This recipe promises to not just taste great but look great too.
It will make entertaining easier: when you’re entertaining you have a million things to think about. This recipe can be made in just a few minutes and then left in the fridge until your visitors arrive.
Ingredients – What You Need
Non-alcoholic white wine (or alternative): I recommend an alcohol-free Sauvignon Blanc for this recipe. If you’re looking for recommendations, I list the best white wines without alcohol here. You can replace it with white grape juice if you prefer.
Apple cider (or apple juice): apple cider adds a slightly sweet and lively zing to this white sangria punch. Any good quality brand will work. Be sure to check out my apple cider mocktails too.
Lemon juice: I love using fresh lemon juice in my recipes, but I know a times it can be expensive! Use bottled if you wish, just be sure it doesn’t contain added sugar.
Fruit: sliced apple and blood orange is perfect for a non-alcoholic white sangria, but you could also try regular orange and lemon slices too.
Spices: you’ll need some cinnamon and star anise – if you’re going to skimp on one, I’d say skip the star anise. The cinnamon works perfectly with the apple flavors, and who doesn't love a cinnamon mocktail?
Something to sweeten (optional): depending on how sweet your wine is (and how much of a sweet tooth you are!) you might choose to add some maple syrup or another type of sweetener. I would recommend waiting until you’re just about to serve before deciding whether to add sweetener, as the flavor can change slightly when it’s left in the fridge.
Optional extras: if you’ve been around here for awhile, you’ll know I LOVE a garnish. I love using some extra pieces of sliced fruit and some star anise or cinnamon sticks to serve. If you prefer a sparkling mocktail, you can top up your glass with ginger beer or sparkling water.
Equipment
You’ll need a small punch bowl or regular sized pitcher for your apple sangria mocktail. I’d recommend a clear one so you can see all the lovely colors!
I served mine in tumblers with a gold rim for that festive feel, but this recipe also works well served in a wine glass for a more celebratory feel.
How to make it
Add your wine (or white grape juice) to your pitcher or punch bowl, along with the apple cider and lemon juice.
Add the fruit and spices.
Give it a good stir, then place in the fridge for at least 1 hour. The longer you leave it, the more the fruit and spices will flavor. Just before you’re ready to serve, taste the Sangria. If you prefer it a little sweeter, add a tablespoon of maple syrup, stir, then taste again. Repeat until it’s just the way you like it!
Fill your glass with ice, add some extra fruit and spices, then serve.
Expert tips and tricks
Prefer a sparkling white Sangria? Top off your glass with a little sparkling water or ginger beer. You could even use a flavored mineral water – lemon would be perfect!
Create a garnish station for your guests. The best thing about this recipe is that you can leave it out so your guests can serve themselves, saving you time. I recommend creating a little station with the glasses, Sangria, some ice and your chosen garnishes so your guests can create their own pretty mocktails!
Avoid adding too much ice to the punch bowl or pitcher. This will water the Sangria down and you’ll lose the depth of flavor. Instead, encourage your guests to place ice in their glasses and serve over ice.
