THIS SIMPLE NON ALCOHOLIC MULLED WINE IS THE PERFECT ALCOHOL FREE WINTER MOCKTAIL. MAKE IT IN A SLOW COOKER OR SAUCEPAN WITH MULLING SPICES TO ENJOY DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON.
This non alcoholic mulled wine is one of my favourite recipes.
Last Winter I tried mulled wine for the first time. I loved it immediately. It was served steaming hot in a big cosy mug. Instantly, it warmed me up from the inside out.
With the weather starting to get very chilly I thought it was time to create an alcohol free version.
This recipe is:
Simple: this recipe is oh so easy to make - you really can't mess it up! Just pop all the ingredients in a slow cooker or saucepan and turn it on. Wait awhile and you're ready to go.
Versatile: there are plenty of variations in this recipe, so you can adjust both the ingredients and the cooking method to whichever you prefer.
Perfect for the cool weather: when it comes to non-alcoholic cocktails there is a huge focus on drinks for the warmer weather, so I love that this is the ideal Winter mocktail recipe.
Divine to drink: I don't know about you, but I can think of nothing better than sitting by the fire drinking a huge mug of non-alcoholic mulled wine - simply bliss! The addition of watching the Christmas tree lights twinkle would be divine!
Ideal as a gift: this would make a beautiful Christmas gift, given in a pretty jar with some festive ribbon. I gifted it to a pregnant friend recently and she loved it.

What is non alcoholic mulled wine?
Traditionally, a mulled wine recipe is made with an alcoholic red wine, mulling spices and fruit such as oranges and . The spices usually consist of cinnamon, cloves, cardamom, and star anise. Often brandy is added for an extra kick.
Alcohol free mulled wine omits the alcohol and uses something else in it's place, often juice. For this recipe I have come up with 2 variations. One with juice, which is perfect for both kids and adults. Then one with alcohol free red wine, which is more for adults and a touch closer to the real thing. Both are equally delicious!
Ingredients you'll need
Juice or alcohol free red wine: If making the juice version you'll need pomegranate juice and cranberry juice. For the pomegranate juice, I used organic with no artificial sugar. Yes, juice does contain some natural sugars, but it is also packed with vitamin C and rich in antioxidants. I used a low sugar cranberry juice which reduces the sugar content too.
For the wine version, you'll need a bottle of non-alcoholic red wine of your choice. The wine you choose depends on your taste. If you like a sweeter, mellow wine, try a Merlot. If you have more of a dry preference, a Cabernet Sauvignon works well. I've written a round up of the best alcohol-free red wine too.
Warming spice for mulling: including cloves, cinnamon sticks and star anise. Any supermarket brand will do.
Fresh sliced orange: which adds a lovely citrus kick to this recipe.
Blackberries (optional): these are completely optional, but I love adding them. I think they provide an extra depth of flavour, and they tastes just divine when warm and plump from the mulled. Think of it like a burst of flavour explosion in your mouth!
How to make alcohol free mulled wine
Both method are super simple. whether you choose the slow cooker or the stove top saucepan version. Simply add all ingredients to your chosen cookware, turn up the heat (but not too much!), and wait the required time. Add your garnish, and serve. It really is that easy.
I hope you enjoy this non-alcoholic mulled wine as much as I do!

I used blood orange slices (a few more than the recipe stipulates) and Wolf Blass Zero Shiraz - it was brilliant.

Delicious! Made this for the first time last night, and as I didn't want to make a batch to find I didn't like it, I only made one cup with the ingredients and pinged it in the microwave until it was warmed through. I'll certainly be making it again!
I was getting bored of drinking plain water, coffee and tea, with the odd can of Pepsi thrown in, and wanted something nice but simple to make, and came across your website. Bought some various fruit juices at the weekend, and looking forward to trying more of your recipes. Currently sipping a Roy Rodgers (yes, with Pepsi, because it *needs* more sugar! 😂) made with simple syrup+pomegranate juice, and I have a Cosmopolitan waiting for me in a Mason jar in the fridge. 🙂
Nat says
Hi Catherine, ooooo I love the microwave idea, how clever!
Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a thoughtful comment, it sounds like you are all set with your mocktails now. Had a giggle at your Roy Rogers comment, I will have to try it with Pepsi one day 😉
Cheers

Can this recipe be made ahead of time?
Nat says
Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your question!
I have tried this 2 days ahead of time, cooled in the fridge, then reheated on the stovetop, and it worked out perfectly.
I hope that helps!
Cheers

What a lovely recipe! Thanks so much. I used cranberries/pomegranate juice, it was delicious! I would like to make it as a gift for my friends and I wondered how long can it be stored for? Should it be kept in the fridge?
The Mindful Mocktail says
Hi Amandine, thanks for your lovely review! I love this one too. It can kept for 3-4 days in the fridge. I hope your friends enjoy it - I love the idea of giving it as a gift!
Michaela Edmunds says
Hello- am hoping to make this very soon. I am wondering, once it’s made and served, if there were lefts overs, could I keep it in the fridge and for how long?
Thanks!
The Mindful Mocktail says
Hi Michaela, my apologies for the delay! Yes you could definitely keep the mulled wine in the fridge for 2-3 days after making it. I hope you enjoy it. Cheers, Nat

I made a big batch of this mocktail when I had some people over for dinner.
Everyone loved it. Perfect for a winters night.
I have made it subsequently just for myself when I feel like a warm drink that isn't tea or coffee and it works out wonderfully every time!

Winter to me usually smells of warm, spiced mulled wine by a cracking fire with my husband or a glass of rich Shiraz with a hearty, meaty dinner. Being pregnant, I was searching for an alternative that was safe yet still allowed for me to feel like I was indulging in a seasonal ritual.
This mocktail ticked so many boxes. It evokes all the spicy wintry warmth you look for in a mulled wine, it was super easy to make and it tastes delicious. I now whip this out regularly to enjoy whilst cooking dinner and recently took the recipe with me on a family holiday in the bush. A hot mug sitting round the campfire was such a perfect way to end my day.
The Mindful Mocktail says

You paint an absolute sublime picture here - I absolutely love it!

Thank you for the lovely review.

One word... yum!
This mocktail is perfect for a cold winter's night. Actually - the best thing is you can drink it any time of the day ❤
The house smelled AMAZING when making too.
I'm not a massive sweet girl, so I diluted the juice a bit more with water and it was still fabulous.
Writing about this, now I feel like one - I might have to make one today!
