Forget the spirits...this spooky mocktail will cast its own kind of magic! Meet The Bloodbath: it comes together in minutes with your choice of berries, maple syrup and juice. There are plenty of ways to mix it up too, so you can make it with whatever you have on hand. Cheers to that!

Why You'll Love It

There are so many reasons to love these spooky mocktails, namely:

  • They are just so easy. A quick muddle, top with ice and your choice of mixer, then finish with your favorite red juice - so simple yet effective.
  • It's the perfect Halloween mocktail for kids. Skip the wine glass and serve these in clear tumblers to still get the bloodbath effect. My boys love being involved in muddling the berries and pouring the 'blood' in before drinking their mocktail, making it one of the best mocktail for kids.
  • It's perfectly Insta-worthy. Let's face it, it's fun to have some action shots for the 'gram over Halloween, and this mocktail can be the star of the show!

What You Need

  • Berries of your choice: I used blackberries and raspberries because that's what I had on hand, but blueberries and strawberries would also work well. You can either use fresh or thawed from frozen.
  • Coconut water or substitution: I like using coconut water because of the benefits, and you can use the leftover for my coconut water mocktails. If you love bubbles, lemonade is a great replacement, especially for kids. Pear or apple juice will also work.
  • Juice that looks like 'blood': this is a bloodbath mocktail after all! My choice is pomegranate because I love the taste and it also is a nice deep red. Cranberry is another perfect choice.
  • Optional: a small skeleton to place in your 'bath'!

To Make Your Spooky Mocktails

  1. Muddle the berries and maple syrup in your glass until the berries are crushed and juicy. Be very careful doing this in a wine glass - be gentle!
  2. Optional step: position your skeleton in your glass, the fill your glass with ice to hold him in place.

  1. Add the lemon juice and coconut water (or substitution).
  2. If you're serving guests, you can either serve the drink as is with a shot of pomegranate juice so they can create their own bloodbath, or you can add prior to serving.

Expert Tips And Tricks

  • Don't be afraid to use berries thawed from frozen - they are often fresher and have a much more vibrant color!
  • Crushed or pebble ice is not absolutely necessary, but does work best for this recipe. To make your own, place some ice in a tea-towel, cheesecloth or zip-lock bag and bash with a mallet - it's really quite therapeutic!

Cook Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 5 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 6-8 fresh or thawed berries of your choice (blackberries, raspberries, blueberries or strawberries)
  • 1 teaspoon maple syrup
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • 4 oz coconut water or pear juice (sub with lemonade or apple juice)
  • 2 oz pomegranate juice (sub with cranberry or cherry)
  • Optional garnish: mini skeleton or extra berries

Instructions

  • Muddle the berries and maple syrup in your glass. Be very careful if you're using a wine glass - muddle gently!
  • Find a spot for your skeleton (if using!), then fill your glass with ice to hold him in place.
  • Add the lemon juice, then the coconut water (or sub).
  • You can either serve with little shots of pomegranate juice on the side so your guests can create their own 'bloodbath', or add the juice before serving.

Batch Instructions

If you’re serving this recipe for multiple guests, here’s what I recommend: muddle the berries and maple syrup in each glass ahead of time and refrigerate them. To take it a step further, position your skeletons (if using), fill the glasses with ice, and pop them in the freezer until your guests arrive. Mix the lemon juice and coconut water (or your chosen alternative) and keep that chilled too - another task done in advance. You can also pre-measure the shots of ‘blood’. When it’s time to serve, top each glass with the lemon mixture, add the ice and skeletons (if you haven't already done this step), then hand out the shots so guests can create their own ‘bloodbath’
