This gloriously gorgeous pink mocktail is lightly sweetened with monk fruit (or your choice of sweetener!), naturally antioxidant rich due to the hibiscus tea, and festive without being fussy. The tart floral notes of hibiscus blend beautifully with fresh citrus, creating a delicious drink that’s vibrant, layered, and simply delicious.

Reasons I Love It (And You Will Too)

  • Low sugar and naturally sweetened
  • Antioxidant rich thanks to hibiscus tea
  • Can be made as a batch mocktail for parties
  • Bright, tart citrus flavor with a floral twist
  • All the margarita vibes, none of the headache

Ingredients

Hibiscus tea - Brewed according to package directions and chilled.
Powdered monk fruit - for our sweetener. You can replace this with your choice of sweetener if you wish.
Fresh lime juice - fresh juice is always best. I do understand the cost can be prohibitive, so you can use bottled if you absolutely must. Just avoid lime juice with added sugar - lime is supposed to be tart, not sweet!
Orange juice - again, fresh is best, with minimal pulp, but bottled orange juice is a lot more forgiving, so use it if you like!
Tequila alternative - I prefer Ritual brand best. If you'd prefer not to use a non-alcoholic spirit, I'll list some alternatives in the recipe card below.
Optional - you can add some agave at the end if you like a little extra sweetness, just be mindful of the sugar content. I enjoyed mine without!
Optional garnish - salt and hibiscus rim, lime wheel and/or edible flowers

Tips & Tricks

  • When entertaining, create a margarita station of orange and lime wheels and edible flowers with your pitcher hibiscus margaritas.
  • This mocktail can be made in advance, so when your guests arrive the drinks are ready.
  • Brew the hibiscus tea double strength for a stronger flavor.

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Total Time: 10 minutes
Servings: 1

Ingredients

  • 3 oz chilled hibiscus tea (brew double strength for a stronger flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon powdered monk fruit sweetener (or alternative, see Note 1 below)
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz orange juice
  • 1 oz tequila alternative like Ritual (or alternative, see Note 2 below)
  • Optional: you can add some agave at the end if you like a little extra sweetness (I preferred mine without!)
  • Optional garnishes: salt and hibiscus rim, lime wheels and/or edible flowers

Instructions

  • To make the tea: Brew the hibiscus tea according to packet instructions, then strain. While the tea is still hot, add your powdered monk fruit sweetener to taste. I found 3 teaspoons to 1 cup of hibiscus tea was enough for me, but you can add more if you’re a sweet tooth! Stir to dissolve and set aside to cool.
  • Add the chilled hibiscus tea, lime juice, orange juice and non-alcoholic tequila (or alternative) to your shaker with some ice and shake well.
  • Strain over ice into a short tumbler and garnish with your choice of lime, hibiscus tea leaves and/or edible flowers.

Batch Instructions

First, use the Servings toggle above to select how many drinks you'd like to make. The ingredient amounts will update automatically.
To make the mocktail, prepare and chill the tea as described above. Add the chilled hibiscus tea, lime juice, orange juice and non-alcoholic tequila to a pitcher. Stir gently and place in the fridge. When you're ready to serve, add a few lime and orange slices to the pitcher if you wish (edible flowers also look gorgeous!), and serve with salted glassware and some ice. I prefer pouring over ice rather than adding ice to the pitcher, as this can water it down. I love creating a pretty garnish station where guests can 'dress up' their own drinks.

Notes

Note 1: I used powdered monkfruit in this recipe in an effort to keep the sugar content down, but you can use regular sugar if you wish. Maple syrup and honey are great natural sweeteners, or you can use agave for a more authentic margarita mocktail.
Note 2: A tequila alternative is always going to get you the closest to the real thing, but I find adding ½ teaspoon apple cider vinegar works wonders for adding bite. You could also try adding some jalapeño slices to your tea when it's warm, which will create some heat!
