I created this easy date syrup to use in my mocktail recipes, but have since found so many other uses for it.

Its great as a topping for ice-cream, in smoothies, even to sweeten up savoury recipes. My kids love the extra sweetness the dates add to any dish.

Confession - I am not really much of a sweet tooth. I have always preferred savoury, and when it comes to drinks I like them dry and a little bit sour.

When I first started talking to people about mocktails, the one thing that kept coming up is the amount of sugar many of them contain.

I am trying to keep my recipes as low in artificial sugar as possible, but sometimes it is necessary to add in a little sweetness.

There are a few ways to do this including using raw organic honey, coconut sugar, monk fruit sweetener, or Stevia. But I have found another way to add sweetness, while also adding a little nutrition too.

This date syrup is so easy to make. It has a delicious creamy texture and gives drinks a delicious creaminess too!

I used medjool dates for this and it worked out beautifully.

I'd love to hear about it if you make this date syrup!

Notes

  • You really do need a high-speed blender for the best outcome. No one wants chunks of date in their mocktail!
  • You can also add a little extra water if you want the syrup a bit thinner.ย
