- 2 cups frozen strawberries
- ½ cup fresh strawberries
- ½ cup lime juice
- ½ cup maple syrup or your sweetener of choice (see notes)
- 60 millilitres non-alcoholic rum or a couple of drops of bitters optional (see notes)
Blend all ingredients together in a high speed blender.
Test the consistency. If it's too thick, add ¼ cup water. Blend then test again. Add a little more if required until it reaches the desired consistency.
Test the flavour. Add a little extra sweetener or lime to taste.
Blend again and serve garnished with fresh strawberries and lime.
Sweetener: if you're not a sweet tooth, you might choose to leave the sweetener out of this recipe. If you're not sure, blend the remaining ingredients as per instructions, then taste and add a little sweetener if you need to. Keep in mind that without the sweetener, the recipe is missing ½ cup liquid from the maple syrup, so a bit of extra water will need to be added.
You can use your preferred type of sweetener in this recipe. The maple syrup can be placed with 2 teaspoons Stevia, or ½ cup simple syrup made with sugar or monk fruit sweetener. Again, if you use a powder type sweetener, you may need to add a little water.
Non alcoholic rum and bitters: I like the Lyres White Cane Spirit and the Fluere Spiced Cane rum. If you don't want to buy a whole bottle, replace this with a couple of drops of bitters to give it that zing that is missing from the alcohol, or you can leave it out entirely and it will still tastes great!
